May 2, 2016
As stated in our last post, our Spring 2016 season has come to an end and along with that we can now announce our official league regular season award winners. In addition to the League MVP award, we are adding two additional awards (Best New Player, Most Improved Player) to the list of official season awards.
Our Best New Player award goes to Ivan Gwynn of The Ship Show (14/19 Overall, 8/10 Doubles, 6/9 Singles, 6/8 Home, 8/11 Away, #8 Rank). Ivan opened the season with a loss on Firepower at C Bar, but then rattled off a seven game win streak that lasted into Week 4. Ivan only lost two sets of back to back games for the remainer of the season. Ivan finished eighth in the league’s ranking algorithm for the MVP award, which is the highest finish of anyone on the Ship Show roster for this season. Ivan finished the season with an overall win percentage of .737, which is tied for the fourth highest overall win percentage in the league.
Our next award, Most Improved Player, goes to John Martin of CSPFC (16/25 Overall, 8/11 Doubles, 8/14 Singles, 7/11 Home, 9/14 Away, #14 Rank). John’s overall win percentage improved over fourty percentage points over last season, and managed to put together an impressive .643 win percentage in away games after dropping all six of his attempts on the road last season. His overall win percentage of .640 was good for 14th best across the entire league, and his win percentage in doubles rounds (.727) is tied for 7th in the league this season.
Finally, the award for the Spring 2016 Regular Season Most Valuable Player goes to Jeff Hart of CSPFC (21/27 Overall, 11/14 Doubles, 10/13 Singles, 12/15 Home, 9/12 Away, #1 Rank). Jeff smashed several all-time league records in his nine appearances for CSPFC this season, including highest overall win percentage of qualified players (.778, qualified meaning at least ten attempts), longest overall win streak (13), longest away game win streak (7), and longest win streak on one machine (9, Game of Thrones). Jeff is tied with Derek Miazga and Mathew Peterson for most wins in doubles (11) and tied for second for most wins at home (12). Jeff is one of two people in league history to notch 20 wins in the regular season (the other being Derek Miazga), and he is also one of three people with win percentages above .700 in both home and away games (assuming at least five home and five away attempts, Jeff Lee and Ivan Gwynn being the other two).
Congratulations to Ivan, John, and Jeff! Also, good luck to all of the teams competing next Sunday in the playoffs!
